Litigation Tracker — User Guide

Matters, stages and instruments, the Deadline Tracker, drafting from the matter, the link with the GST Research page, and the GSTAT paper book.

Litigation Tracker — Quick Guide (10 minutes)

The Litigation Tracker is your matter file. One matter = one dispute, followed from the first notice to the Tribunal and beyond. Everything else — statutory clocks, AI drafting, the GSTAT paper book — hangs off the stages you record.

Where: Litigation Tracker in the menu (/matters). GST matters and Income-tax matters live side by side.

1. Create the matter (1 minute)

+ New Matter → pick GST (or Income Tax and a track) → title, client, GSTIN, disputed amount, notes → Create.

You can start at any stage. A matter that begins at the Order-in-Appeal is fine; earlier stages can be back-filled later.

Fill Edit Matter → party details (client address, constitution, respondent Commissioner) early — the GSTAT paper book and the ancillary documents print them.

2. Record each stage as it happens (2 minutes each)

+ Add Stage → stage type → date → order/reference number → authority → amounts → Instrument (the form the department used: ASMT-10, DRC-01, DRC-07, APL-04, MOV-09, REG-17 …) → Save.

The date and the instrument are what matter. From them the tracker derives every clock for that stage — reply-by, appeal window, condonation limit, pre-deposit, s.78 recovery date, the department's review window, rectification, limitation for the notice, reduced-penalty windows.

Upload the document on the stage card (Upload Document). AI extracts the text and writes a summary; AI Summarize re-runs it.

3. Watch the Deadline Tracker

On every matter: the Deadline Tracker card lists every open clock with the statutory basis. /matters shows the next 30 days across all matters. Red = overdue.

  • Hard clocks (appeal windows, pre-deposit, reply-by) are e-mailed at 7 / 3 / 1 days.
  • Watch items (department's window, rectification, recovery date) are shown, not mailed.
  • Calendar (.ics) exports the ledger into Outlook / Google with alarms on the hard clocks.
  • Mark a row Done or Waived; Recompute re-derives after you edit a stage; + Add deadline for anything manual (hearing, internal target).

4. Generate the document for the stage

Each stage card offers the drafts that fit it: SCN Reply on a notice, Grounds of Appeal on an order, Written Submissions / Stay / Rectification / Restoration at the Tribunal. Click one → the Litigation Workspace opens with the whole matter (every stage, document and prior argument) already in the prompt.

Search First lets you see and prune the case pool; Generate writes the draft; refinement chips (Aggressive, Limitation, Natural Justice …) revise it; Save to matter stores it on the stage; Finalize locks it.

A Grounds of Appeal generated from the matter also records the judgments it cites — the paper book uses that list for the compilation of judgments.

5. Coming from a notice on /gst-rag?

On the GST Research page, link the matter in the Matter selector (top of the page). Then:

  • The matter's dispute history is injected into every generation.
  • Any Notice card → paste the notice → the detector names the instrument and shows the reply-by date, limitation and penalty panel → Record in matter timeline creates the stage on the matter with its clocks, in one click.
  • Orders (DRC-07, APL-04) are redirected to the Appeal workflow automatically.

6. Build the GSTAT paper book (GST matters)

Matter page → GSTAT Paper Book (AI Document Tools card) → the annexure list is pre-filled in the Registry's order from what the matter holds → set bench and representative → add Ancillary documents (synopsis & list of dates, vakalatnama, FORM-04, affidavit) → Check (registry-scrutiny report) → Build.

You get one PDF (or ≤20 MB parts): FORM-02-style index, continuous page numbers, "Marked as Annexure-N" and true-copy stamps, bookmarks. No AI, no tokens. Download it from the Build card or from the document chip on the matter.

The five habits that make the tracker pay off

  1. Date every stage — no date, no clocks.
  2. Pick the instrument on notices — reply periods differ (7 working days for REG-17, 30 days for DRC-01, 15 days for ASMT-10 …).
  3. Upload the department's document, not your summary of it — the AI reads the actual text.
  4. Generate from the matter, not from a blank page — prior submissions are never contradicted and citations are captured.
  5. Finalize what was filed — the paper book flags drafts that are still open.
