Union Bank of India 444-Day Callable Term Deposit: Rates, Premature Closure, Insurance Cover and Tax

This article explains the 444-day callable term deposit offered by Union Bank of India, with rates checked on 11 October 2026 from the bank's domestic and NRO rate schedule effective 4 August 2026, its fixed deposit and non-callable product pages, deposit insurance guidance and the Income-tax Act, 2025.

Depositors and advisers often take the 444-day tenor to be a separate scheme with its own guarantee. It is not. It is one tenor within the bank's ordinary fixed deposit framework, and the rate, closure terms, insurance cover and tax treatment follow from the general rules that apply to every such deposit. The questions below take each in turn.

What is the 444-day rate?

Under the schedule effective 4 August 2026, the callable rate for 444 days is 6.50% per annum for deposits below Rs 3 crore. The neighbouring tenors are 400 days at 6.25% and 555 days at 6.55%.

For eligible resident senior citizens the bank adds 0.50 percentage point, and for super-senior citizens 0.75 percentage point, on domestic term deposits up to Rs 5 crore. Applying those additions gives:

  • 444 days: 7.00% for senior citizens and 7.25% for super-senior citizens;
  • 400 days: 6.75% and 7.00%; and
  • 555 days: 7.05% and 7.30%.

These figures are arithmetic applications of the concession to the published base rates and not separately published rates. The concession is for eligible resident customers. A non-resident depositor should not mechanically assume the resident senior concession.
