India Launches Unified Portal for Unclaimed Financial Assets: A Major Step Towards Financial Empowerment

Background and Context

Millions of Indians hold unclaimed financial assets scattered across banks, insurance companies, stock registries, and mutual fund houses — often without even knowing it. Dormant accounts, lapsed insurance policies, uncollected dividends, and forgotten mutual fund units collectively represent a significant pool of public wealth that remains disconnected from its rightful owners. Addressing this long-standing challenge, the Government of India has taken a decisive step by launching a centralized digital platform designed to help citizens locate and reclaim their financial assets from a single point of access.

The Department of Financial Services (DFS), operating under the Ministry of Finance, officially introduced the Common Landing Portal for Unclaimed Financial Assets on 29th May 2026. Developed in partnership with PSB Alliance, the portal is now live and accessible at https://www.unclaimedassetsportal.in. This initiative represents a meaningful advancement in how the government approaches financial inclusion, transparency, and citizen empowerment.

What Is the Common Landing Portal for Unclaimed Financial Assets?

The Common Landing Portal is a single, unified digital interface that consolidates access to search and tracing tools for unclaimed financial assets spread across India's broader financial ecosystem. Rather than navigating multiple websites belonging to different regulators, banks, and financial institutions, citizens can now begin their search from one centralized location.

Categories of Unclaimed Assets Covered

The portal provides access to information and search facilities related to the following categories of unclaimed financial assets:

  • Unclaimed bank deposits — savings and fixed deposit accounts that have remained inactive or unclaimed
  • Insurance claims — policy benefits, maturity proceeds, and death claims that have not been settled or collected
  • Shares — equity holdings transferred to the Investor Education and Protection Fund (IEPF) or otherwise lying unclaimed
  • Dividends — declared but uncollected dividend amounts on equity shares
  • Mutual fund units — investments in mutual funds where investors have lost track or failed to redeem

By bringing these diverse asset classes under a single search umbrella, the portal eliminates the friction that previously prevented many citizens — particularly those from semi-urban and rural areas — from tracking down their rightful financial holdings.

The "आपकी पूँजी, आपका अधिकार" Campaign

The launch of the Common Landing Portal is directly aligned with the government's ongoing nationwide campaign titled "आपकी पूँजी, आपका अधिकार (Your Money, Your Right)", which translates to a broader public awareness drive focused on educating citizens about unclaimed financial assets and facilitating their recovery.

Objectives of the Campaign

This campaign, undertaken by the Department of Financial Services in close coordination with financial sector regulators, public sector banks, and various other stakeholders, operates on three core pillars:
