GST Revenue Collections – August 2026: Key Data, State-wise Trends and Cumulative Figures

The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) has published the official provisional revenue data for August 2026, capturing gross collections, net receipts after refund adjustments, State/UT-wise SGST settlements, and domestic collection breakdowns by approving authority. The figures are presented as on 31 August 2026 and are expressly provisional in nature — final numbers may differ marginally upon reconciliation.

This article presents a structured overview of all the data released, including monthly performance, cumulative figures for the April–August 2026 period, and State-level trends across major revenue categories.


Overview: Gross GST Collections for August 2026

Total gross GST revenue for August 2026 reached ₹1,99,853 crore, rising sharply from ₹1,74,116 crore recorded in August 2025 — a year-on-year growth of 14.8%.

This figure is composed of two principal streams:

Domestic Revenue

Gross domestic collections rose from ₹1,25,570 crore in August 2025 to ₹1,37,249 crore in August 2026, registering growth of 9.3%. The component-wise breakdown is as follows:

  • CGST: ₹38,413 crore (August 2026) vs ₹34,076 crore (August 2025)
  • SGST: ₹46,316 crore (August 2026) vs ₹42,854 crore (August 2025)
  • **IGST (Domestic)😗* ₹52,520 crore (August 2026) vs ₹48,639 crore (August 2025)

Import Revenue

Gross revenue from imports (IGST on imports) climbed from ₹48,546 crore to ₹62,604 crore, recording the highest growth rate among all categories at 29.0%.


Refund Outflows: A Notable Increase in August 2026

While gross collections reflect robust growth, refund disbursements also rose considerably during August 2026. Total refunds issued during the month stood at ₹31,795 crore, compared with ₹18,935 crore in August 2025 — a growth of 67.9%.

Domestic Refunds

  • Total domestic refunds: ₹18,490 crore (up from ₹10,715 crore in August 2025) — 72.6% growth
  • CGST refunds: ₹3,890 crore vs ₹2,600 crore
  • SGST refunds: ₹4,555 crore vs ₹3,115 crore
  • IGST refunds (domestic): ₹10,044 crore vs ₹5,000 crore

Export GST Refunds via ICEGATE

  • Total: ₹13,305 crore vs ₹8,221 crore in August 2025 — 61.8% growth
  • Entirely attributable to IGST refunds processed through ICEGATE

Net GST Revenue for August 2026

After netting out all refunds, total net GST revenue for August 2026 stood at ₹1,68,057 crore, as against ₹1,55,181 crore in August 2025 — net growth of 8.3%.

Gross Collections (Cumulative)

Total gross GST revenue for the April–August 2026 period reached ₹10,42,757 crore, compared with ₹9,39,724 crore for the corresponding period in 2025–26 — a growth of 11.0%.

  • Cumulative Gross Domestic Revenue: ₹7,36,370 crore (up from ₹6,99,127 crore; +5.3%)
  • Cumulative Gross Import Revenue: ₹3,06,387 crore (up from ₹2,40,596 crore; +27.3%)

Cumulative component-wise gross collections:

  • CGST: ₹2,05,161 crore
  • SGST: ₹2,45,787 crore
  • IGST (combined): ₹5,91,810 crore

Cumulative Refunds

Total refunds for April–August 2026 amounted to ₹1,53,234 crore, against ₹1,23,785 crore in the prior year — growth of 23.8%.

  • Cumulative Domestic Refunds: ₹90,925 crore (vs ₹70,351 crore; +29.2%)
  • Cumulative Export Refunds (ICEGATE): ₹62,309 crore (vs ₹53,433 crore; +16.6%)

Cumulative Net Revenue

After netting refunds from gross collections, cumulative net GST revenue for April–August 2026 stood at ₹8,89,523 crore, up from ₹8,15,939 crore — a growth of 9.0%.

  • Cumulative Net Domestic Revenue: ₹6,45,445 crore (+2.7%)
  • Cumulative Net Customs Revenue: ₹2,44,078 crore (+30.4%)
