Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles delivers strong Q2 FY27 sales growth with accelerating EV demand

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited, earlier known as Tata Motors Limited, has announced a sharp rise in its sales performance for the second quarter of fiscal year 2027. The company has reported overall sales of 201,723 units in Q2 FY27, compared to 144,397 units in Q2 FY26, translating into a 40% year-on-year increase.

This growth momentum has been fuelled by continued traction in the domestic market, a steady uptick in international business, and a rapid expansion in the electric vehicle segment, underscoring a broader shift towards greener mobility options.

Overall Q2 FY27 performance

Total sales volume

  • Q2 FY27 total sales: 201,723 units
  • Q2 FY26 total sales: 144,397 units
  • Year-on-year growth: 40%

The company has managed to lift its volumes significantly despite the second quarter traditionally being considered a relatively softer period in terms of seasonal demand.

Domestic vs international sales

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles’ performance has been broad-based across geographies, with both domestic and international operations contributing to the upswing, though domestic sales remain the primary growth engine.

Domestic passenger vehicle sales

  • Q2 FY27 domestic sales: 196,674 units
  • Q2 FY26 domestic sales: 140,189 units
  • Domestic growth: 40% year-on-year

The domestic segment accounted for the bulk of total sales, maintaining a strong correlation with the broader industry expansion in passenger vehicle registrations.

International business sales

  • Q2 FY27 international sales: 5,049 units
  • Q2 FY26 international sales: 4,208 units
  • International growth: 20% year-on-year

While the international business contributes a smaller share of the company’s overall volumes, it continues to show steady improvement, reflecting increased acceptance of the brand’s products in overseas markets.

Surge in electric vehicle volumes

One of the most significant aspects of the Q2 FY27 performance is the sharp acceleration in electric vehicle (EV) sales. Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles recorded:

  • Q2 FY27 EV sales: 47,150 units
  • Year-on-year EV growth: 90%

This nearly doubling of EV volumes clearly indicates stronger customer inclination towards electric mobility and reinforces the company’s positioning in the EV space. The EV portfolio is emerging as a key pillar of growth, contributing meaningfully to overall volumes and aligning with the industry-wide push for sustainable transportation.

Greener powertrains driving portfolio shift

According to the company’s update, the contribution from greener powertrain technologies—comprising both electric and CNG vehicles—has risen markedly.

  • Greener powertrains (EV + CNG) share in total sales: 51%

This figure signals a structural transformation in product mix, with more than half of the company’s sales now coming from low-emission or alternate-fuel vehicles. The data points to a tangible change in customer preference patterns, moving away from conventional internal combustion engine-only offerings.
